A New Standard in Prehistoric Artistry

The featured model is not technically a dinosaur, but a prehistoric crocodyliforme. The “Birth of the Rains” model kit features a striking depiction of a Sarcosuchus imperator mother with hatchlings delicately held in her mouth. The mother comes in two different designs:
  1. Walking straight: best for illustrating the full length of the creature.
  2. Curved: turning slightly to the right with an elegant “S” shaped tail.
The base supports displaying the mother either standing above her nest or walking away towards the water. The animal also stands without the base.

Birth of the Rains is available in various scales to fit your personal collection, including 1:35, 1:20, and 1:15, with custom sizes also available. Our limited edition 1:15 scale model is particularly special, with only 30 pieces produced. Each limited model comes with a unique numbered badge and a signed certificate of authenticity, ensuring you have a truly exclusive piece.

As with our other kits, you can order Birth of Reigns in three different ways:

  • Disarticulated model (DIY build)
  • Model kit built (professionally assembled)
  • Painted model (professionally assembled and painted)

Scientific Basis and Unique Features

What sets the “Birth of the Rains” apart is its adherence to real crocodilian behavior. The model is designed based on research into how modern crocodile mothers assist their hatchlings to the waterline. When hatchlings chirp from the nest, it signals the mother that they are ready to emerge. The mother then goes to the nest and helps the hatchlings by removing some of the nest substrate. This behavior is crucial for their survival, and the rainy season provides optimal conditions for these young creatures to thrive.

Furthermore, the title “Birth of the Rains” reflects this phenomenon, as extant crocodile hatchlings typically emerge during the wet season. Crocodiles build nests near water, creating either mound nests from vegetation and soil or hole nests in sand, depending on the species and habitat. This nesting behavior ensures the eggs are protected from flooding while utilizing natural incubation from decaying materials. While the babies grow in their eggs, their imposing mother stays close by, ready to fend off any interlopers.

What collectors say:

“As a collector of prehistoric models, I have seen my fair share of replicas, but the 'Birth of the Rains' is in a league of its own. The level of detail in the scale patterns is astonishing. Every ridge and contour is true to life. Most models I’ve encountered have generalized patterns, but this one captures the essence of a real crocodilian. Matt’s artwork is nothing short of meticulous. The interior of the mouth is particularly impressive, reflecting the anatomy of a gharial rather than the more common crocodile. It really brings this ancient creature to life, and I have featured it prominently in my collection!”

"I’ve collected paleoart for years, but nothing has ever struck me the way ‘Birth of the Rains’ did the moment I unboxed it. There’s something profoundly moving about this piece. The mother Sarcosuchus... massive, ancient, and protective cradling her tiny hatchlings feels like witnessing a moment stolen from deep time. It’s not just a model; it feels like a story about survival, care, and the raw beauty of life in the prehistoric world.

The textures stopped me in my tracks. Every scale, every subtle change in patterning, every fold around the jaw feels alive... it adds a realism I didn’t even know was missing in other models. It’s the difference between a sculpture and a living snapshot.
I chose the walking-straight version, and the pose has this quiet, powerful grace to it. Standing it on my shelf, it’s almost like watching her lead her young into the world for the very first time. I’ve shown a lot of friends my collection over the years, but this is the piece everyone will stop for. It’s breathtaking."

"I honestly wasn’t prepared for how deeply this piece would resonate with me. There’s a quiet emotional weight to it—something about the way it captures a moment of connection between a prehistoric mother and her young. It felt less like adding to my collection and more like bringing a small piece of ancient life into my home.
What struck me most was the feeling it evoked. It’s powerful, protective, and strangely tender all at once. I’ve collected paleoart for years, but this model made me stop and just appreciate the beauty of a world long gone. Every time I look at it, I’m reminded why I fell in love with prehistoric life in the first place. It’s not just impressive—it’s emotionally stirring in a way I didn’t expect."

As mentioned above, one of the most notable aspects of the “Birth of the Rains” model is its incredible anatomical accuracy. The scale patterns and textures are meticulously crafted to reflect the true appearance of living crocodiles and alligators. Unlike many other models that rely on generalized patterns for ease of production, Matt invests significant time and effort to ensure every detail is true to life.

In fact, the interior of the mouth and the tongue are inspired by the anatomy of a gharial. While crocodiles and alligators have long tongues that fill most of their mouths, gharials possess shorter tongues seemingly due to their narrow snouts. Since the exact structure of a Sarcosuchus mouth remains speculative, but Sarcosuchus has a relatively narrow snout (relative to Deinosuchus, for instance), Matt made the model emulate a gharial’s mouth and tongue anatomy. In addition to the above-mentioned scale patterns and textures, this attention to detail elevates the model beyond simple representation, making it a true piece of paleoart.
